2. Carson Messina, RHP, Summerville
The highest-touted hurler in the state, Messina can deliver with attention-catching velocity.
Before touching 100 miles per hour in February, he impressed on the travel circuit last year, with Perfect Game scouting reports raving about his top-end arm speed and hammer slider. He’s the 29th-ranked right-hander in the country.
Messina is following his older brother, Cole, to the University of South Carolina, having signed to play for the Gamecocks in November. The elder Messina, a backstop, was both a first-team All-Southeastern Conference honoree and an All-American last go-round.
The younger Messina will pair with the No. 1 player on our list for Summerville this spring.
