On his way to earning the 2022-23 Oklahoma Gatorade Player of the Year award, the 6-foot-4, 200-pound southpaw went 9-1 with a 0.75 ERA in 46.2 innings of work. He fanned 109 batters and gave up a measly 18 hits.
At Prep Baseball Report’s Super 60 Pro Showcase in Chicago in early February, Mayfield turned heads again with his pitching metrics. The scouting service’s vice president described his workout as a stellar showing, including a fastball that measures 92-94 miles per hour and has late life.
