Top 10 New Mexico HS baseball players in Class of 2024
2. Zakye Hawkins, SS, Las Cruces
With a wider stance and high hands, Hawkins gets set for a fluid swing. The shortstop puts the barrel on the ball with regularity, too, having put up a .443 batting average in 108 trips to the plate as a junior at Las Cruces last year.
Hawkins, a Utah commit, added 28 RBIs, 11 doubles, three triples, and a homer. Hawkins’ Bulldawgs finished behind only state runner-up Centennial in the NMAA District 3-5A standings.
Las Cruces then lost the final two of a best-of-three opening-round playoff series against Rio Grande. In that bill, Hawkins scored five runs and had an RBI, a double, and a triple.
Zakye Hawkins (‘24, NM) had a massive day going 3-3 w/ 2Bs seen below & 6 RBI. #1 player in state does it easy, can manipulate the barrel head on any pitch & works QABs with ease. commit.
