Top 10 New Mexico HS baseball players in Class of 2024
1. Zach Kmatz, RHP, Sandia
Pitching velocity is valued at all levels on the diamond. Kmatz is a solid example of this.
He was lightly recruited — mainly fielding small-school offers — prior to reaching 92 miles per hour on the radar gun as a junior early last season. After hitting that mark, programs such as TCU and Oregon State began courting him.
Kmatz, a right-hander, is committed to playing for the latter, where his older brother, Jacob, is part of the starting rotation. Last spring, the 6-foot-3, 205-pound Kmatz posted an impressive 1.58 ERA and fanned 61 batters for Sandia High School. In the state quarterfinals, he blanked La Cueva.
Zach Kmatz (‘24, NM) has shown the ability to keep hitters off balance and generate whiffs fairly often. FB has sat 88-91 mph w/ slight ASR. Shows feel for a tight SL at 79-82 mph. Has flashed CH at 83-85 mph as well. commit
