Ranking each Big 12 basketball team entering conference play
13. West Virginia Mountaineers
West Virginia went through a tumultuous offseason that included the dismissal of longtime coach Bob Huggins. The Mountaineers’ season on the court hasn’t started much better with losses in seven of their first 11 games. West Virginia did play a ranked Virginia team to a close finish in the Fort Myers Tip-Off Tournament, but there hasn’t been a lot of reason for optimism otherwise under interim head coach Josh Eilert. Perhaps providing a glimmer of hope for the conference season is the availability of transfers Noah Farrakhan and Kerr Kriisa. Adding those two players to the likes of Quinn Slazinski and Jesse Edwards should make the Mountaineers more competitive, but it will still be hard to make much noise in such a deep conference.
