Ranking the 9 new Power 5 head coach hires this offseason
4. Mike Elko, Texas A&M
After leading the Blue Devils to success, Elko finds himself in College Station once again. During his first stint with the Aggies, Elko, the program鈥檚 defensive coordinator from 2018-21, helped Texas A&M finish with four straight bowl trips and an overall record of 34-14. He earned some experience in Durham, going 16-9 in two seasons after the program suffered three consecutive losing seasons.
Elko has proven he can help turn a program around and he knows how to recruit to A&M which makes him a great fit. The biggest question is if Elko鈥檚 coaching style can translate to success in the SEC, college football鈥檚 most competitive conference. It is not an easy task as many great coaches have had difficulty making the transition to the conference. However, given his previous experience in the program and his success as a head coach, he has a great chance to live up to the hype.
