College football鈥檚 top 5 matchups of Week 13
2. No. 15 Oregon State vs. No. 6 Oregon – Friday, 8:30 p.m. ET, FOX
The 鈥淐ivil War鈥� between Oregon State and Oregon is one of college football鈥檚 oldest rivalries that has seen 126 matchups dating back to 1894. Oregon leads the series with a record of 67-49-10 thanks to wins in 35 of 48 games since 1975, and a more recent stretch of 12 wins in the last 15 years against the Beavers. However, Oregon State has won in this matchup two of the last three seasons, including in a thrilling 38-34 contest in Corvallis last year.
The Beavers will have their work cut out for them to make it three wins in four tries on Friday night. Oregon State has had a solid 8-3 season overall, with its three losses coming to some of the top teams in the Pac-12: Washington State, Arizona and Washington. The Beavers have been solid on both sides of the ball as they rank in the top 30 nationally in both total offense and total defense. Last week, Oregon State managed to hold an explosive Washington offense to just 22 points and will need that kind of defensive performance again in Eugene.
That鈥檚 because Oregon features the No. 2 total offense in the country, putting up 545 yards per game. The Ducks are also second in scoring offense with 46.5 points per contest and have not put up less than 33 points in a single game all season. Heisman candidate Bo Nix is the biggest reason for that success and is coming off of a 400-yard, six-touchdown performance last week against Arizona State. Along with additional offensive weapons like Bucky Irving and Troy Franklin, the Ducks鈥� offensive attack will again be called upon to lead the team to a Pac-12 Championship game berth.
