College football’s top 5 matchups of Week 13
3. Texas A&M vs. No. 14 LSU – Saturday, 12:00 p.m. ET, ESPN
There are multiple rivalry games featuring SEC teams this weekend and one of the best will take place in Baton Rouge between Texas A&M and LSU. The first-ever matchup of this rivalry came all the way back in 1899. The Tigers lead the all-time series over the Aggies 35-23-3 and have won nine of the last 12 matchups between the two programs. However, Texas A&M did earn a 38-23 win in College Station last year.
Things look a little different for the Aggies now than they did then, particularly after the team fired head coach Jimbo Fisher just over a week ago. Elijah Robinson has taken over as the interim coach and led Texas A&M to a win over Abilene Christian last weekend to help the team improve to 7-4. The Aggies have lost to multiple ranked SEC opponents this year including Alabama, Tennessee and Ole Miss – all of which were one-score games – but will look to finally break through in Baton Rouge behind a solid offense and a top-10 total defense.
Texas A&M’s defense will be in for its greatest test of the season on Saturday as LSU ranks No. 1 in the country in both total offense and scoring offense, putting up over 562 yards and nearly 47 points per game. That’s thanks in large part to Heisman candidate Jayden Daniels who has thrown for over 3,500 yards, rushed for 1,000 yards and has scored 46 total touchdowns this season. A loss to Alabama did in the 8-3 Tigers’ SEC title hopes a couple of weeks ago, but LSU can still improve its bowl standing with a win over its rival.Â
