7. Michigan State Spartans
The Big Ten has lacked success in the NCAA Tournament in recent years, but behind Tom Izzo, Michigan State has been a bit of an outlier when it comes to that trend. Izzo helped lead a 21-13 team to an upset of No. 2 seed Marquette and a Sweet 16 appearance in last season鈥檚 NCAA Tournament. In 2023-24, he will have a matured and improved roster that is bound to go further. Michigan State also has a top-five recruiting class in the country coming in headlined by Xavier Booker and Jeremy Fears Jr.
While those guys could make immediate contributions, it鈥檚 returning guards A.J. Hoggard, Tyson Walker and Jaden Akins that make this team dangerous, while big men Malik Hall and Mady Sissoko also return. Yes, the Spartans did suffer a concerning opening loss to James Madison, and are going to face much bigger tests in Duke, Arizona and Baylor before going through the gauntlet of the Big Ten schedule once again. But with the experience this team has, and Izzo鈥檚 history of success in March, the Spartans absolutely have the potential to make a Final Four run.
