Ranking the teams most likely to win a Big 12 championship
4. Kansas State Wildcats
Kansas State enters the final month of the regular season playing some of its best football after beating TCU 41-3 two weeks ago, and Houston 41-0 this past weekend. The Wildcats have also earned conference victories over UCF and Texas Tech, with their only Big 12 loss coming by eight points at Oklahoma State. K-State currently sits at 6-2 overall, as the Wildcats also lost a tight three-point game at Missouri early in the year – a team that is now ranked No. 14 in the country.
The Wildcats have experience after winning the Big 12 Championship game last year and several players from that squad remain leaders of the team this season, including quarterback Will Howard, who has steered the ship for the 15th-ranked total offense in the country. Kansas State also features the fifth-best rushing attack in the nation behind DJ Giddens and Treshaun Ward.Â
K-State certainly has the firepower to win the Big 12, but the schedule down the stretch for the No. 25 Wildcats is tough. That begins this weekend with a road game at Texas, and also features a road game at Kansas sandwiched between home contests against Baylor and Iowa State. Wins in all four of those games will have Kansas State in great shape, while victories in three of the four could even be enough for back-to-back conference title game appearances.
