College football’s top 5 matchups of Week 2
2. Nebraska vs. No. 22 Colorado – Saturday, 12:00 p.m. ET, FOX
Nebraska and Colorado have one of the most storied rivalries in all of college football that dates back to 1898. From 1948 to 2010, the teams played annually as conference foes with the rivalry really picking up in the 1980s and 1990s as both programs were two of the top teams in the nation. Nebraska leads the all-time series with a record of 49-20-2, but since the Huskers and Buffaloes left for the Big Ten and the Pac-12, respectively, Colorado has won each matchup played by the two programs.
The 2023 version of the rivalry was highly anticipated going into the season, but has earned even more hype after Colorado pulled off a surprising Week 1 upset at TCU in head coach Deion Sanders’ debut. Behind 510 yards passing from Shedeur Sanders, the Buffs won 45-42, and now find themselves ranked No. 22 in the AP poll. Meanwhile, Nebraska also began a new era last week under Matt Rhule, suffering a last-second 13-10 loss at Minnesota. How both teams respond to their respective Week 1 highs and lows will be key in the next chapter of the rivalry on Saturday.
