College football’s top 5 matchups of Week 2

1. No. 11 Texas vs. No. 3 Alabama – Saturday, 7:00 p.m. ET, ESPN

Texas and Alabama have faced off just 10 times since 1902, and historically, the Longhorns have dominated the series with a 7-2-1 record all time against the Crimson Tide. However, Alabama has won the teams’ two matchups during the Nick Saban era. The first came as the Crimson Tide earned a 37-21 victory in the 2010 BCS National Championship game. The second came last year in a thriller in Austin. Despite losing starting quarterback Quinn Ewers to injury, Texas held a 19-17 lead over Alabama with under two minutes remaining, but Bryce Young pulled off some heroics to put the Crimson Tide in position for the game-winning field goal made by Will Reichard.

This year’s matchup in Tuscaloosa could provide similar drama. While Alabama is again the favorite, the Longhorns figure to be much improved this season and are ranked No. 11 in the AP poll after a 37-10 win over Rice last week. Meanwhile, No. 3 Alabama steam-rolled Middle Tennessee State in Week 1 behind first-year starting quarterback Jalen Milroe who will get his first true test at the college level this weekend.
