College football’s top 5 matchups of Week 2

5. No. 13 Oregon vs. Texas Tech – Saturday, 7:00 p.m. ET, FOX

Oregon and Texas Tech will do battle for just the third time ever on Saturday, and the first time in over three decades. The teams played a home-and-home series in the early 1990s with Oregon earning close victories in both matchups despite having relatively lackluster seasons overall both of those years towards the end of the Rich Brooks era. However, in 2023, the Ducks enter their Week 2 matchup ranked No. 13, moving up two spots following an absolutely dominant Week 1 showing where they beat Portland State 81-7, racking up over 700 total yards on offense.

Scoring another 81 points will be hard to come by against a Texas Tech team that should be out for revenge. Projected to be one of the top teams in the Big 12 this season, the Red Raiders suffered a shocking double-overtime upset loss at Wyoming last Saturday despite a stellar performance from quarterback Tyler Shough. Regardless of the teams’ opposite Week 1 results, a close matchup with some offensive fireworks seems like it’s in store on Saturday night in Lubbock.
