Ranking all 14 Big Ten head coaches entering 2023 season
5. Kirk Ferentz, Iowa
Ferentz has been on the sidelines for the Hawkeyes since 1999, and one of the most consistent coaches the Big Ten has will enter his 25th season as head coach in Iowa City this year. Ferentz鈥檚 ties to Iowa go back to the 1980s where he served as the program鈥檚 offensive line coach for nearly a decade, eventually earning the same role in the NFL with the likes of the Cleveland Browns and Baltimore Ravens.听
Since a 1-10 season in his first year at Iowa, Ferentz has led the Hawkeyes to 19 bowl games, winning 10. The 68-year-old head coach currently has an all-time record of 186-115, and has helped Iowa to 8 wins or more in each of the last seven seasons that the team has played a full schedule. He has the chance to make it eight straight in 2023 with what should again be a strong defense, and likely an approved offense with new quarterback Cade McNamara.
