Pat Fitzgerald fired; 5 candidates for new Northwestern HC
2. Mike Kafka
A former Northwestern quarterback, Kafka has found a lot of success as an NFL assistant coach. Last season, Kafka helped the New York Giants offense take a huge step forward as the team鈥檚 offensive coordinator. This came after Kafka spent five years as part of the Kansas City Chiefs coaching staff and one season as a graduate assistant with the Wildcats in 2016.
Given his previous experience with Northwestern as both a player and coach and his success at the NFL level, Kafka would make a great hire for the Wildcats. However, Kafka may be too big of a name for the university as he interviewed with the Arizona Cardinals, Carolina Panthers, Houston Texans and Indianapolis Colts for their open head coach positions this offseason. If he decides he wants to return to his alma mater more than an opportunity as an NFL head coach, Kafka would be a home run hire for Northwestern.
