Top 5 2023 NBA Summer League debuts

Cason Wallace, PG, Oklahoma City Thunder

The return of Chet Holmgren, the Thunder’s firstround pick in last year’s draft who missed the entire year with a foot injury, was expected to be the main talking point in OKC’s first summer league. Holmgren did play great – 16 points and 10 rebounds – but Wallace stole the show. The former Kentucky point guard showed some impressive three-point shooting, going 6-for-10 from behind the arc. Wallace led the Thunder in scoring with 20 points to go along with three rebounds, two assists and two steals. He even hit a half-court shot as time was running out on the shot clock during the fourth quarter.

OKC traded with the Mavericks to get the rights to Wallace so it’s fitting that he led the Thunder to a 91-80 win over Dallas in his summer league debut. Kentucky guards have done well in the NBA in recent years and the Thunder are well aware of that thanks to Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. They may have found another talented Wildcat guard in Wallace.
