7. Whitney Lewis, Class of 2003 – .9990
Lewis is the first member of this list to never reach the NFL ranks but he was still a record-breaking high school football player. The St. Bonaventure standout was the first California player to ever record 1,000 rushing yards and 1,000 receiving yards in the same season (2002). Lewis wanted to play football for Florida State, but his parents forced him to attend in-state USC where he rarely saw the field and became known as one of the of the last two decades.
After transferring from USC because he wanted to solely play wide receiver rather than a jack-of-all-trades type of role, Lewis landed at Northern Iowa but never gained traction. Nonetheless, Lewis is the and his senior campaign – when he caught 65 passes for 1,235 yards, rushed for 1,059 yards and scored 42 touchdowns – will live on forever in state record books.
