Top 10 all-time leading rushers in Virginia HS football
6. Thomas Jones, Powell Valley (1992-95)
Perhaps the most recognized name on this list, Jones was a star for the Powell Valley Vikings before his Pro Bowl-caliber NFL career. During his time at Powell Valley, Jones rushed for 7,193 yards and 104 touchdowns which included a 3,319-yard junior year that broke the record for most rushing yards in a single season (it has since been surpassed). As one of the top rushers in the country, Jones joined the in-state Virginia Cavaliers.
Jones continued his stellar career with the Cavs as he finished as the program鈥檚 all-time leading rusher with 3,998 yards, which still stands as the 10th-best total in ACC history. He also set a then-ACC record for single-season rushing with 1,798 yards as a senior in 1999. He was selected by the Arizona Cardinals with the seventh overall selection in the 2000 NFL Draft. Over the course of a 12-year NFL career that included stops in Tampa Bay, Chicago, New York and Kansas City, Jones rushed for 10,591 yards while scoring 68 touchdowns and being named to the Pro Bowl in 2008.
