10 greatest NBA players to play junior college basketballÂ
4. Artis Gilmore, Gardner-Webb Junior College
Despite prep success, Gilmore decided to go the JUCO route attending Gardner-Webb Junior College. During his two seasons at Gardner-Webb, Gilmore averaged 22.5 points and 16.9 rebounds on his way to back-to-back JUCO All-American honors.
Gilmore transferred to Jacksonville University where he played two seasons before he was selected in the seventh round No. 117 overall by the Bulls in the 1971 NBA Draft but opted to join the ABA instead. Gilmore was a dominant force for five years in the ABA, being named all-league five times and winning rookie of the year, MVP and a title before joining the NBA. Once in the NBA, Gilmore went on to be named an All-Star six times and All-NBA five times in 13 NBA seasons before being inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2011.
