Earvin ‘Magic’ Johnson
While each player on this list accomplished the same incredible feat, arguably none did it as impressively as Johnson. During his sophomore year at Michigan State, Johnson averaged 17.1 points, 8.4 assists and 7.3 rebounds and led the Spartans to a national championship where he was named the Final Four Most Outstanding Player.
Johnson was selected by the Los Angeles Lakers with the first overall pick in the 1979 NBA draft and immediately became a star. As a rookie, Johnson averaged 18 points, 7.7 rebounds and 7.3 assists on his way to all-rookie and NBA all-star honors. During the NBA Finals, Johnson had perhaps his best showing as he recorded 42 points, 15 rebounds and seven assists as the replacement center for Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in the Lakers’ series-clinching Game 6 victory. This earned the future Hall of Famer the NBA Finals MVP, becoming the first and only rookie to ever win the award.
