Christian Braun could join elite group of NCAA, NBA champions
Billy Thompson
A teammate of Johnson鈥檚 during his time with the Lakers, Thompson also matched his teammate鈥檚 rare accomplishment. As a senior with the Louisville Cardinals, Johnson led his squad to an NCAA championship by averaging 14.9 points, 7.8 rebounds and 3.9 assists while starting all 39 of the team鈥檚 games.
With his strong championship performance, Thompson was selected by the Atlanta Hawks with the No. 19 overall pick in the first round of the 1986 NBA Draft before being moved in a draft-day trade to the Lakers. During his first season in LA, Thompson averaged 5.6 points, 2.9 rebounds and one assist over 12.9 minutes as a bench player while the Lakers went on to win the 1987 NBA Finals. Unfortunately, injuries would cause Thompson鈥檚 career to go off the rails as he ended his time in the NBA after just six years in the league with the Lakers, Miami Heat and Golden State Warriors where he averaged 8.6 points, 5.4 rebounds and 1.7 assists.
