Top 5 performances at the Masters by an amateur
2. Charlie Coe, T2, 1961
Coe became only the second amateur to ever place second at the Masters in 1961. He also became only the second amateur ever to shoot in the 60s in two rounds at the Masters. Coe shot 69s in his last two rounds but was still one stroke behind Gary Player at the end of the Masters. He tied Arnold Palmer for second. It鈥檚 still one of the best performances by an amateur at the Masters.
On the 72nd hole of the '61 Masters, Oklahoma amateur and ANGC member Charlie Coe's birdie putt rolled four inches past the cup to finish one stroke behind eventual champion .
In the six decades since, no amateur has come as close to winning a green jacket.
