Top 5 performances at the Masters by an amateur
4. E. Harvie Ward Jr., 4th, 1957
Ward was considered one of the best amateurs of the 1950s and at the 1957 Masters he finished fourth. Ward finished even and just five strokes behind Douglas Ford, who won the Masters that year. He was just one stroke behind the leader entering the fourth round but shot a 73 in his last round. It was his best finish at the Masters after tying for eighth in 1955 and tying for 14th in 1953.
Happy Birthday Harvie Ward – born on this day in 1925.
One of the most decorated amateur careers in golf history & key figure in ‘The Match’ (book by is a mandatory read for any golfer IMO).
