Grading college basketball鈥檚 10 biggest coaching hires
Georgia Tech: Damon Stoudamire
Georgia Tech athletics have not been fun over the past decade or so. On the hardwood, they made the NCAA Tournament in 2021, but things have spiraled out of control since resulting in the firing of Josh Pastner. It was hard to imagine that it could convince a decent coach to come dig the program out of the mud, but the Yellow Jackets somehow pulled it off.
You probably remember Stoudamire for his playing days, but the former NBA Rookie of the Year has become quite the coaching prodigy. Since 2008, he has bounced back and forth between the college and pro ranks, getting his first head coaching opportunity at Pacific in 2016. He went back to the NBA in 2021 as an assistant under the Celtics and emerged as one of the league鈥檚 brightest, young coaches. This is definitely a splash hire for Georgia Tech and one that can pay off in a big way.
Former Celtics assistant Damon Stoudamire got emotional at his introductory press conference at Georgia Tech.
