5 highest combined seeds to make men鈥檚 basketball Final Four
21 (1980)
In just the second tournament with seeding, basketball fans got a taste of just how interesting March Madness could get. In the Final Four, the teams still left standing were 8-seed UCLA, 6-seed Purdue, 5-seed Iowa and 2-seed Louisville. This marked the first time no 1 seed made the Final Four and the last time no top seed would make the semifinal round until the aforementioned 2006 field.
Though the group was filled with significant parity, it was the highest seed that came away with the title as Louisville beat UCLA 59-54. While the highest seed did come out victorious, this Final Four grouping proved to be the most diverse for the tournament until the turn of the century.
