2023 March Madness Sweet 16 bracket breakdown
No. 4 UConn vs. No. 8 Arkansas
UConn is playing like the team that was ranked No. 2 in the nation earlier this season. In both of the Huskies’ first two games, they entered the second half up by only one or two points but then ran away with the game in the second. Adama Sanogo is the first player since Blake Griffin in 2009 to average 25 points, 10 rebounds and 70% shooting through the first two games of a single NCAA Tournament. Also, Jordan Hawkins has been playing great, shooting 66% from three (8-12) over the last two games. UConn is certainly playing like a Final Four team and head coach Danny Hurley has figured out how to get the Huskies to pull away in the second half.Â
Arkansas has already had one of the better upsets of a tournament that has had a lot of great upsets. The Razorbacks got the win over Kansas to advance to the Sweet 16 and Eric Musselman reminded everyone why coaches make the tournament so much more entertaining. Arkansas’ Davonte Davis was amazing in the game with 25 points and Ricky Council IV followed him with 21. Davis will be extremely important in trying to stop Hawkins but the Razorbacks need to find a way to keep Sanogo from being so dominant.Â
Arkansas had a great win against Kansas but with the way UConn is playing, it’s hard to see the Huskies not making the Elite Eight. Stopping Sanogo might be too much for the Razorbacks even if Davis can neutralize Hawkins. UConn should win this game.Â
