2023 March Madness Sweet 16 bracket breakdown
No. 2 Texas vs. No. 3 Xavier聽
Texas was able to hold off a late push by Penn State to advance to the Sweet 16 after beating Colgate by 20 in the first round. Dylan Disu took over in the second half and scored 10 of his 28 points in the last five minutes of the game. Disu has now become another scorer the Longhorns can turn to. Texas is strong on both ends of the court and has the makings of a Final Four team. Against Xavier, it鈥檒l be the defense that gets the Longhorns to the Elite Eight.聽
Xavier is playing as well as anyone else in the tournament. After having to make a late comeback against Kennesaw State in the Round of 64, the Musketeers were in total control against Pitt. On offense, Xavier has distributed the ball well, the team had six players score in the double digits against Pitt. This is an offense that can compete with anyone and can get points from the paint or the perimeter. It will be the defense the Musketeers play that will decide who plays in the Elite Eight.聽
Texas and Xavier both have multiple players that can score or take over a game. The problem is that Texas clearly has the better defense. This game should be a shootout with both offenses putting up a lot of points but late in the game, Texas has a better chance of getting the stop it needs to win. Texas wins in a thriller.
