10 teams who could make a Cinderella run in March Madness
8. Toledo
It’s been over four decades since Toledo has made the NCAA Tournament, but 2023 might finally be the year. Many thought they would see the Rockets in the “big dance” in 2022 as they went 26-8, but could not get the automatic bid out of the Mid-American Conference (MAC). That instead went to Akron who gave UCLA all it could handle in the teams’ opening-round tournament matchup in 2022.
Like a few teams on this list, Toledo has some talented scorers. The group is headlined by junior guard RayJ Dennis who averages 19 points. Senior forward JT Shumate also averages nearly 17 points as a strong shooter, while senior Setric Millner Jr. can fill it up as well, evidenced by a 32-point game recently. The Rockets shoot nearly 40% from 3-point range, and if they get hot, they could take down a lot of teams in the bracket. The 24-6 squad will look to take care of business in the MAC this season, and should be confident riding a current 14-game winning streak.
