5 teams most likely to make NCAA Tournament for first time
4. Grambling State
Grambling State is in prime position to end its March Madness drought, which would be even more impressive considering that a decade ago the program became one of just eight in Division I basketball history to field a winless team for a season. Now, the Tigers find themselves in the driver鈥檚 seat of the Southwestern Athletic Conference.
With two conference games left, Grambling is in first place in the SWAC with a 20-8 overall record, a 13-3 conference record and a seven-game win streak. If the Tigers maintain hold of their place in the conference standings, they would earn the No. 1 seed in the upcoming SWAC tournament which begins on March 8.
Given the advantage the No. 1 team gets in a conference tournament and the fact that the Tigers鈥 20-8 overall record is much better than the next best, Alcorn State at 16-12, they have a tremendous chance to make it into the March Madness field for the first time ever.
