Top 10 Maryland HS baseball players in Class of 2023
2. Christopher Hacopian, SS, Winston Churchill
Hacopian knows a thing or two about playing baseball. His father, Derek, played baseball for Churchill back in the 鈥80s before having a standout career at the University of Maryland where he set the school record for RBIs and was named an All-American and ACC Player of the Year before being drafted into the MLB by the Cleveland Indians. Like his father before him, Chris has shown prowess on the diamond.
Last season, the 6-foot-1, 195-pound shortstop and right-handed pitcher led the Bulldogs to a 19-3 record and a trip to the Class 4A state semifinals after he batted .539 with a school–record 41 RBIs, 39 runs scored and 12 home runs. On the mound, Chris had an unblemished 8-0 record with one save and an ERA of 1.15, striking out 55 batters in 41.2 innings pitched. This helped the standout earn the state鈥檚 honors.
As the No. 6 ranked prospect in Maryland by Perfect Game and the No. 2 prospect by PBR, Chris had his share of college interest. Like his father before him, Chris will play his baseball in the ACC but will do so for Wake Forest University, where he officially signed on national signing day.
