7. Gene Bess

Bess is the winningest college basketball coach of all time across all levels with 1,300 wins over 50 seasons with Three Rivers Community College. As the Raiders鈥� head coach, Bess led his teams to 17 NJCAA Tournament appearances, four finals and two championships. Individually, Bess was named the NJCAA National Coach of the Year twice.

For Bess, his level of competition could also be his Achilles heel. While he does hold the record for most wins and his longevity is impressive, can the committee look beyond the fact his highest level of coaching was in the community college ranks?
