SEC’s top 10 basketball players with month left in season

10. Zakai Zeigler, G, Tennessee

Zeigler doesn’t put up the most eye-popping numbers on this list, but it is hard to overstate just how much he, along with his backcourt mate Vescovi, mean to a Tennessee team that is ranked No. 6 in the country. Like Vescovi, the sophomore guard often functions as a catalyst of the offense, averaging around 11 points, three rebounds and five assists. At just 5-foot-9, Zeigler has quickness on both ends of the court and is effective with the pick-and-roll in Rick Barnes’ offense. He is also capable of applying strong ball pressure on opposing guards, evidenced by his two steals per game.

For Tennessee fans and SEC fans alike, his shooting continues to be a question mark, as he had a dreadful 0-for-10 performance recently in a grind-it-out 46-43 win over Auburn. However, two games before that against Texas, Zeigler put up 22 points as well as 10 assists in a big victory over the Longhorns. It was one of three double-doubles Zeigler has posted on the season. While the senior Vescovi is a little more consistent and steady than the sophomore, Zeigler has slightly higher upside that will be needed down the stretch for the Vols.
