4. Brandon Roy, G, Garfield
Had knee injuries not heartbreakingly cut Roy鈥檚 career short, he very well may be at the top of this list. Still, the guard had an NBA career worthy of being one of Seattle鈥檚 best. He got his start playing at Garfield High School in the Emerald City, and despite the opportunity to jump to the NBA right out of high school, Roy stayed in his home state to play college basketball with the Washington Huskies. With Washington he was tremendous, averaging nearly 13 points per game in each of his sophomore and junior seasons. He fully broke out as a senior as he averaged 20.2 points, 5.6 rebounds and 4.1 assists as a first-team All-American and the Pac-10 Player of the Year. Roy became the sixth overall pick of the Minnesota Timberwolves following his illustrious college career, and returned to the Pacific Northwest after he was dealt on draft night to the Portland Trail Blazers. The Blazers made the right move, as Roy became an instant star, scoring nearly 17 points per contest in his first season as he went on to win NBA Rookie of the Year. Roy would follow that up with three consecutive All-Star appearances, highlighted by a career year in 2009-10 where he scored 22.6 points per game, also averaging around five rebounds and assists. After one more season in Portland, Roy retired due to a degenerative knee condition. He made a comeback with Minnesota in 2012, but played in just five games. Since, Roy has returned back to Garfield High School to coach its boys basketball program.
