Calais Campbell, Phillip Lindsay among Denver鈥檚 top 5 NFL stars

2. Phillip Lindsay, RB, Denver South

A couple of active players conclude the list of Denver鈥檚 best, and that begins with Lindsay who has followed a similar career path to Graham, at least based on who he鈥檚 played for. Also a basketball player and tremendous track and field athlete, Lindsay became Denver South鈥檚 all-time rushing leader during his illustrious high school football career with 4,587 yards, also racking up a program-record 5,747 all-purpose yards and 57 total touchdowns.聽

Unfortunately, Lindsay suffered an ACL tear as a senior. However, it did not slow him down once he got to the University of Colorado. Lindsay racked up over 500 yards from scrimmage for the Buffs as just a freshman, and would score the first seven touchdowns of his college career as a sophomore. As a junior, Lindsay fully broke out with 1,252 rushing yards, 493 receiving yards and 17 touchdowns. He added a career-high 1,474 rushing yards as a Doak Walker Award semifinalist in his senior year, finishing his incredible Buffs career with 4,859 total yards from scrimmage and 39 total touchdowns.聽

Despite the impressive numbers, Lindsay went undrafted in 2018, but joined his hometown Denver Broncos as a free agent that summer. As a rookie, Lindsay proved his game could translate to the NFL as he ran for 1,037 yards while adding 241 yards and 10 total touchdowns, earning a selection to the Pro Bowl. Lindsay again ran for over 1,000 yards in 2019 before falling out of favor in Denver as he battled injuries in 2020. He is the first undrafted player to have back-to-back 1,000-yard rushing seasons in his first two years in the league in NFL history. Lindsay played for both the Texans and Dolphins in 2021 and is currently a member of the Colts after signing in Indianapolis this past May.
