Austin NFL stars highlighted by Drew Brees, Baker Mayfield
7. Michael Griffin, Bowie
One of the top-ranked players in his class, Griffin was a two-year starter on the offensive and defensive side playing both running back and defensive back. As a senior, the Bowie star earned an honorable mention on the All-State Class 5A list for his work in the backfield. His impressive showing as a two-way player landed the cornerback at Texas, where he appeared in 50 games throughout his collegiate career. Finding his way on both defense and special teams, Griffin left the Longhorns’ program with his name near the top of the record books as he helped the team to two straight Rose Bowl wins and an Alamo Bowl victory his senior year. After being selected by the Tennessee Titans in the first round of the 2007 NFL Draft, the free safety would go on to play in 154 games racking up 25 interceptions and over 800 combined tackles throughout his 10-year career.
