By: Corinne Ellington ARLINGTON, Va. – Marymount University women’s tennis student-athlete Renee Schmidt has been named the recipient of the 2025-26 Atlantic East Conference Medal of Inspiration, an award that recognizes individuals who have overcome significant adversity while exemplifying perseverance, courage, and determination. Schmidt’s journey back to collegiate competition is a testament to resilience. In 2020, she was diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS) a connective tissue disorder that caused cervical instability, brain stem compression, and partial paralysis.
