Fellow outfielder Trei Cruz was optioned to Toledo in his place, and a 40-man roster spot was opened up by transferring injured righty Burch Smith from the 15-day IL to the 60-day IL. Malgeri, 26, was Detroit鈥檚 18th-round pick out of Northeastern back in 2021.
