Marquette University will honor the 50 th anniversary of the 1977 men's basketball national championship with a season-long, campus-wide celebration beginning this summer. The 1976-77 Marquette men's basketball team beat North Carolina, 67-59, to win the national title under legendary head coach Al McGuire, who retired at the conclusion of the campaign. The team posted a record of 25-7 en route to the school's first and only national crown.
