McDowell baseball hired Asheville High coach Bill Hillier as its new coach and director of baseball operations, McDowell County Schools announced June 16. Hillier is replacing longtime McDowell coach Alex Smith, who retired at the conclusion of the season after 19 years. Smith led the team to a Northwestern Conference title in 2021.
