Building Something More than Lacrosse at Milton: Milton Boys Lacrosse
MILTON, Ga. — Coach David Closterman, now in his third year with Milton, has helped the Eagles Boys Lacrosse Team continue its growth as one of the state鈥檚 rising programs. A former Division I player at UVM who also spent time playing professionally, Closterman brings both experience and passion to the sidelines. His philosophy includes developing a genuine love for the game while creating an environment where players enjoy competing together.
鈥淚 want my guys to have fun,鈥 Coach Closterman shared. 鈥淚 believe you get more out of them when they enjoy it.鈥

That balance between teaching and motivation has helped fuel some memorable moments over the past several seasons. Major milestones for the program include wins over Mill Creek in 2024, Buford in overtime in 2025, and most recently Lassiter in the 2026 Final Four. This last victory was the team鈥檚 first against Lassiter since 2021.
Their focus is not solely on the scoreboard. Following difficult losses, the entire coaching staff emphasizes growth and perspective, reminding players that there is always something to learn. 鈥淭here is winning and learning,鈥 the team often says. While this may sound clich茅, they know that using adversity as motivation to improve equals long-term success.

For the coaching staff, the proudest moments come from the highlight reels. Watching players support one another, grow into leaders, and develop into respectful young men has become the true measure of success. 鈥淚 want my players to be better people and athletes when they graduate,鈥 coach shared.
That culture has helped Milton Boys Lacrosse steadily build momentum behind the scenes over the past four years. While the team fell short of its championship goal this season, the experience has only strengthened the hunger within the program. They are motivated and determined to continue improving and ready to learn from this season鈥檚 lessons.

Coach Closterman recognizes the dedication and support surrounding the Eagles help enable its growth. Parents, coaches, and both school and community supporters continue to play a vital role in building the culture surrounding the team. Special appreciation is also extended to Coach Tom Dell for his continued commitment and dedication to the team.
As the Eagles prepare for next season their goal will remain clear. Build great players, better people and a program that the entire Milton community can proudly stand behind. Go Eagles!
