AHSAA hires manager to lead independent schools amid public-private split
The Alabama High School Athletic Association has hired Barry "Buster" Daniel to lead its work with independent schools as the organization prepares to separate public- and private-school postseason competition. Daniel will join the AHSAA as an assistant director on Monday, June 22. His appointment comes ahead of a classification overhaul scheduled to begin during the 2026-27 school year. The system will place public schools in six classes (Classes 1A-6A) and independent schools in two divisions (Class A and Class AA).
