Oakland baseball hires former Independence coach, MTSU star Mike McLaury
Oakland named former Independence baseball coach Mike McLaury as the new Patriot coach on May 27. He replaces longtime coach and 700-game winner Mack Hawks, who retired following the 2026 season. McLaury is a former MTSU baseball standout, who was an assistant (2000, 2006-2019) with the Blue Raiders before taking the Independence position. He spent the previous seasons guiding the Eagles, where he led them to the Class 4A state tournament in both 2023 and 2025.
