Fort Worth Christian held a 3-0 lead heading into the sixth inning of the D-2 state championship game against Lutheran South Academy, but a five-hour rain delay proved costly. The Cardinals surrendered three runs in the bottom of the sixth and lost 4-3 in the seventh, falling in their eighth state title attempt. Grady Emerson, widely regarded as the nation's top high school baseball player, could not prevent the defeat despite a strong individual performance.
