Inside a championship program: A conversation with Westfield golf coach Josh Bryant
WESTFIELD, Ind. — There is something special happening on the fairways and greens of Westfield High School. A program once building toward its first breakthrough has grown into one of the most consistent and respected golf teams in the state. Fresh off a historic 2025 state championship season, the Shamrocks are not slowing down.
I recently sat down with Head Coach Josh Bryant to talk about the culture, the expectations, and what continues to set this program apart.

About the 2026 Westfield High School Golf Team
The 2026 season comes with high expectations as much of the varsity roster returns from last year鈥檚 state championship team. Westfield will look to replace key seniors, including Jake Cesare and Will Harvey, while continuing to compete among the top programs in Indiana.
What are your expectations for the 2026 season?
Josh Bryant: We expect to compete at the state level again. Our team has a strong mix of returning experience and younger talent that continues to improve. The offseason gave our players valuable tournament experience that should help us moving into conference play and the postseason.
Who are some key returning players to watch?
Bryant: Seniors Ryan Cesare and Mitchell Keene bring strong leadership and experience, along with Hudson Kutchma and Brayden Worthington. Junior Jude Kaufman and sophomore Keaton Knott have also had strong starts this season.

What strengths does this team have?
Bryant: Experience and depth are our biggest strengths. These players have competed in a lot of tournaments together, and that creates confidence and trust within the team.
What are the goals for this season?
Bryant: Our focus is on commitment and consistency as players and teammates.
How did the team prepare during the offseason?
Bryant: The boys competed in more than 200 offseason tournaments combined and also participated in winter strength and conditioning training.
What stands out from last year鈥檚 championship season?
Bryant: The 2025 team set a very high standard. They finished the year with a team average of even par and won the state finals by 30 strokes while setting state records in the process.

What challenges do you expect this year?
Bryant: Our conference and postseason path remain some of the toughest in the state. The competition in Hamilton County pushes us to improve every day.
How do you build team culture?
Bryant: We emphasize 鈥淏etter Together/Farther Together鈥 and 鈥淥utwork/Outlove.鈥 Players train and compete together across grade levels, which helps strengthen relationships throughout the program.
Are there any tournaments you are especially excited about?
Bryant: The Spring Preview, HCC Conference Tournament, Hamilton County Tournament, and Adam Schenk Invitational are always highlights because of the level of competition.
What advice would you give young golfers?
Bryant: Golf rewards consistency and commitment. Every player in this program started by taking that first step鈥攚hether that was practicing more, taking lessons, or entering a tournament.
