Whitecaps split weekend slate, stay top of VNPL Division 3
GLOUCESTER, Va. — The Baystars U11 Whitecaps opened a weekend doubleheader in Williamsburg on Saturday, May 2, 2026 against VA Legacy Peninsula Wizards. Despite missing several players due to injury and illness, the Whitecaps stuck with their usual lineup against a Legacy squad bolstered by guest players. The teams proved evenly matched throughout, with the game ultimately decided by a single first-half goal from Legacy. Whitecaps goalkeeper Lux Despinis delivered an outstanding performance with 15 saves, but a strong Legacy defense kept the visitors off the scoreboard in a hard-fought contest.
The Whitecaps returned home Sunday, May 3, 2026 to host the undefeated Beach FC 2015 Pre-NPL Valencia at Woodville Park. Known for their fast starts, the Whitecaps wasted no time setting the tone. Donnie Wolford opened the scoring off an assist from Colton Bergstrom, before the pair reversed roles for the second goal. Ryan Seay then connected with Ronen Lane to give the Whitecaps a 3–1 lead at halftime. Despinis recorded three saves in the opening half, conceding just once.
In the second half, the Whitecaps continued their strong play on both ends of the field. Bergstrom added another goal early, followed by Seay finishing a well-placed pass from Triffon Luechauer to extend the lead. Seay struck again on a perfectly curled corner kick, and Luechauer capped the scoring to seal the victory. Despinis, who allowed just one second-half goal, later rotated into the field, while Fett Kutch stepped into goal and recorded a save.
The Whitecaps’ win was highlighted by crisp passing and strong on-field communication. With the result, they remain firmly atop the Virginia National Premier League Division 3 standings.
