AHSAA approves news playoff format for football under private and public split
The Alabama High School Athletic Association approved the new pathway playoff format for the 2026 high school football on Wednesday, April 15. During the AHSAA CBOC meeting on Wednesday, executive director Heath Harmon discussed the rebranding of the state football championships because it now it includes an extra class after the AHSAA decided to split private and public schools for championship play. For teams in Class 1-5A, there will be eight regions with the top four teams from each region advancing to the playoffs. 32 teams from each classification will make the playoffs over the course of five playoff rounds....
