De La Salle hires 3-time state title winner from Baton Rouge area to coach football
De La Salle hired three-time state title winning coach Chad Mahaffey to coach the football team, the school announced Monday. Mahaffey won three titles and reached the finals one other time during his nine seasons at University High in Baton Rouge, before he coached the past seven seasons at Class 5A Walker, including last year鈥檚 1-9 finish. His head coaching record of 142-59 over 17 seasons includes one season at Vermilion Catholic. Mahaffey鈥檚 arrival comes after former De La Salle coach Graham Jarrott stepped down after five seasons.
