YORBA LINDA, Calif. — As we kick off 2026, the reality is setting in: The Summer Olympics are no longer a distant dream. In about 2.5 years, the world will descend on Southern California for the LA28 Olympic Games (July 14鈥�30, 2028).
For residents of Yorba Linda, this isn’t just a global event; it鈥檚 a local one, with major venues confirmed nearby. Here is the latest verified news and how you can get involved this year.
Volunteer Applications: If you want to be part of history, 2026 is the year to act. While the LA28 Volunteer Program has already begun engaging with the community, the major push is just around the corner. You can register your interest immediately at la28.org/en/volunteer. Getting your profile in the system now ensures you don鈥檛 miss alerts.
The “Local” Venues: You won’t need to brave the traffic all the way to Downtown LA or Santa Monica to see Olympic gold. For a complete list of venues, visit . Here are a few of the major hubs that are closer than Downtown LA:
- Anaheim (The Honda Center): Confirmed to host Indoor Volleyball. We can watch Team USA compete just down the 57 Freeway!
- Arcadia (Santa Anita Park): In a massive win for our horse-loving community, Equestrian events will return to the historic Santa Anita Park. This means world-class Dressage, Jumping, and Eventing.
- Pomona (The Fairplex): Our neighbors to the north will host Cricket, which is returning to the Olympics for the first time since 1900. The Fairplex will be transformed into a world-class stadium for the tournament.
- Long Beach: This coastal hub will host Rowing and Canoe Sprint (Marine Stadium), Sailing (Belmont Shore), Water Polo (Convention Center lot), Handball (Arena), and Marathon Swimming.
- Carson (Dignity Health Sports Park): Confirmed for Tennis, Field Hockey, Rugby Sevens, and Track Cycling.
New Sports & Venue Shifts The 2028 program is shaking things up with five new sports: Flag Football, Squash, Lacrosse, Cricket, and Baseball/Softball.
Baseball: In a perfect pairing, Olympic Baseball will be played at Dodger Stadium.
Swimming: In a historic move, Swimming will take place in a temporary pool inside SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, allowing for the largest swimming audience in Olympic history.
Important Note on Softball: While Baseball is in LA, Softball and Canoe Slalom have been moved to Oklahoma City to utilize existing world-class facilities rather than building temporary ones here.
