Please share some history or backstory on the team/club/program.
Eric Bendig: The B team was established four years ago to develop young athletes from our feeder schools starting in 7th and 8th grade. Since then, we鈥檝e had a successful run of players who began their journey with us early. Our current junior class, many of whom played on the B team that went 9-1, is a strong testament to the program鈥檚 impact. Both the B team and JV squads are vital pieces in building a competitive program that Philip Simmons proudly strives for.
What are the team鈥檚 goals for the current/upcoming season?
Bendig: Our goal is to start each player鈥檚 high school football journey on a positive note, inspiring pride in wearing the purple and black. We want the kids to feel excited and motivated to be part of this program for life. The B team is their first opportunity to represent Philip Simmons, and we take that responsibility very seriously.

Who are the team’s captains or leaders? What makes them a vital part of the team’s success?
Bendig: The team鈥檚 leaders include quarterback Ellis Futch, wide receiver Tyrus Alston, running back/linebacker James Shultz, and linemen Kaleb Speed and Braydon Chastain, among many others. These players have been instrumental in leading by example with their skill, work ethic, and dedication, driving the team鈥檚 success on both offense and defense.
Does the team have any pregame rituals or traditions?
Bendig: Before every game, the team gathers for a motivational talk led by the coaches and captains, followed by a team cheer that unites them and builds focus and energy.
How does the team welcome new members?
Bendig: We warmly welcome all players from our feeder schools into the program, striving to make participation accessible at no cost. Our goal is to provide every student the opportunity to learn and grow through football. Beyond the game itself, our program focuses on developing the whole player鈥攎entally, physically, and socially鈥攗nder the guidance of dedicated coaches who support each athlete鈥檚 growth.

How does the team celebrate?
Bendig: Our players and coaches love winning and love to celebrate those wins. They celebrate together. Usually with some sayings that Coach Williams has for them and they dance, shout, and celebrate each other after wins.
Has the team (or any individuals) broken any records this year? (for example: single game/season statistics like scoring or wins in a season, etc.)
Bendig: Absolutely! The B team not only finished with a perfect 10-0 record鈥攖he first undefeated season in school history at this level鈥攂ut also dominated on both sides of the ball. They outscored opponents by a staggering 382 to 64, averaging 38.2 points per game while allowing just 6.4 points. Impressively, the team recorded 5 shutouts, showcasing their defensive strength.

What has motivated the team to reach their goals this season?
Bendig: The motivation came from a shared commitment to honor the school鈥檚 legacy, improve every day, and support each other as a family on and off the field. We worked very hard and this group showed up every day to be a part of our ELITE high school football program.
Anything else you鈥檇 like to add?
Bendig: We are incredibly proud of the B team鈥檚 historic season and grateful for the dedication of our coaches, players, and families. This success lays a strong foundation for the future of Philip Simmons football.
