Steamboat Springs Sailor football gears up for another season of Friday night lights
STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. — The Steamboat Sailor Football team is excited to take the field once again under the Friday night lights this fall. After a strong winning season in 2024, the Sailors are ready to build on that momentum and take the next step forward in 2025. Expectations are high, and the energy around the program is electric.

This year鈥檚 squad features a solid mix of returning veterans and promising newcomers, with around 65 players competing across all levels. That level of participation speaks to the growing strength and depth of the program. A determined and focused senior class will lead the way, bringing experience, leadership, and grit. The Sailors return 17 starters from last year鈥檚 team, giving them a strong foundation on both sides of the ball.
Throughout the offseason and into preseason practices, there has been open competition at every position. Players have embraced the challenge and are pushing each other daily. This competitive mindset is sharpening the team鈥檚 edge and preparing them for the battles ahead.

Offensively, the Sailors graduated three starting offensive linemen, but key anchors return up front in Kenny Orce and Lloyd Warren. The offensive line will be a critical piece to establishing the run game, which will be fueled by a deep and talented group of running backs. Thomas Krupp, Eli Bever, Frank Boice, and Lucas Johnson will share carries and keep defenses guessing. With the ground game clicking, the Sailors plan to open up their aerial attack, featuring returning wide receivers Abbott Gautreaux, Cohen Vanderbosch, Luke Jordan, and others who are ready to make big plays downfield.

At quarterback, senior Tanner Cobb brings back valuable experience and composure. Right behind him is junior Indy Lightner, who has shown growth and readiness to step in when needed.
On the defensive side, the Sailors aim to maintain their identity as a physical, high-pressure unit that creates takeaways. In 2024, they racked up an impressive 23 turnovers in just nine games. With nine defensive starters returning, along with several others who saw significant time, this year鈥檚 defense has the potential to be even more disruptive. Look for players like Luke Jordan, Weston Worley, Blu Wills, Tyler Grove, Sean Struble, Eli Bever, AJ Geslin, and Wyatt O鈥橬eill to play impactful roles.

Second-year head coach Scott Przymus is enthusiastic about what lies ahead. 鈥淲e plan on playing a physical brand of football鈥攐n both sides of the ball. We will 鈥楧efend the 鈥楤oat,鈥 and this year鈥檚 team is committed to respecting all opponents but fearing none,鈥 Przymus said. 鈥淲e learned a lot last season, and the players and coaching staff have worked extremely hard to solidify the foundation for this year and beyond.鈥
With strong leadership, depth at all levels, and a renewed sense of purpose, the future of Sailor Football is bright.
